One of the many highlights of the Camber year is the tennis holiday abroad. This year it will take place from September 17-24. As we had such successful previous trips, we are returning to the Jonathan Markson Tennis Academy in Praia da Luz in The Algarve, where we have been for the last two years.
The holiday consists of a mixture of coaching and social time. Coaching takes place Monday to Friday mornings for three hours. The Portuguese coaches are excellent – skilled, but friendly and unthreatening – and all playing levels are catered for. There are no more than four players on each court, and whatever your standard you will be able to improve.
In the afternoon people typically go to the beach or the swimming pool to relax. Unlike some tennis setups we have free use of the courts outside coaching times, so there is usually social tennis later in the afternoon. In the evening we eat at one of the excellent local restaurants.
Also unlike many Tennis Academies abroad, the one at Praia Da Luz is not a self-contained complex. It is very much part of the town, with a short walk to the beach and restaurants. You can find more information, pictures and a short film at http://www.marksontennis.com/algarve-luz-bay-hotel
The website only shows accommodation in the hotel, but some people stay in apartments opposite the hotel. These are shared, cheaper and provide a great space for the whole group to socialise in the evening before and after going out to eat. The following prices are per person, and include the accommodation and coaching:
